Super Selling Tips

Any sales professional can tell you that getting a sale is not an easy task. It takes practice and proper technique to be successful. There are a few key tips and tricks that can help you fine-tune your sales pitch. In some cases, these tips may require only a small adjustment in how you phrase a response to a customer or the format in which you ask a potential client a question.

The benefit of open-ended questions

When you initially greet your customer, you are in a prime position to gather information on how to sell them your product. Avoid questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no at all costs, since this type of question only allows you to get one piece of information at a time. Replace these yes or no questions with open ended questions that will require your customer to tell you more. A good starting point is asking them why they are interested in the particular product that they came to see. This will require them to answer by telling you the benefits that they value. For example, if they say they are looking for a more efficient and cost-effective model of a piece of office equipment, you now know that they are interested in speed and saving money, and you can tailor your presentation accordingly.

Present benefits, not features

A common mistake that sales professionals make is telling their potential client the features that their product has, instead of highlighting the benefits of those features. Anyone can find out what features a product has by simply reading a product description or brochure. By introducing the features along with each feature’s benefits to the user, you will achieve better rapport with your client. They will realize immediately that you know your product well and that they can learn the ins and outs of their newly purchased product from you. This will increase both your chances of selling the item now, and your chances of the customer coming back to you for future purchases. Repeat business is the best way to build your customer base, because happy customers talk to their friends and send you new customers as well.

These simple tips can add a great deal of strength to your sales presentation. Take a little time and see where you can adjust your current sales pitch to employ these techniques. Being aware of your customer’s goals in making the purchase and tailoring your presentation to emphasize the benefits your product has for them is guaranteed to increase your success. All you have to do is think before you speak, and then watch the sales roll in.
